Mid-Century, Green Fireclay Tile, Flat Panel Cabinets, Modern Hardware
Kitchen Renovation
Highland Park, St. Paul, MN
The client originally envisioned a small kitchen with a modern aesthetic—a warm, inviting space that balanced sleek, minimal design with everyday comfort. However, as we explored the layout, we realized the footprint was quite limiting. To give them a sense of openness, we reconfigured the appliance placement—shifting the range to a new wall and closing off a door and removing a wall. This allowed us to reclaim valuable floor space and create a natural flow from the kitchen to the open dining area.
We conducted a meticulous review of the cabinetry layout, ensuring every inch was maximized. We added deeper upper cabinets in the space above the stairs, creating a functional nook for an appliance garage—open for ease but with a clean, organized feel. The flat-panel cabinets, with their mid-century edge pulls, were paired with a vibrant, colorful tile backsplash. Through this careful reimagining, we created a highly functional, open kitchen that makes every square foot count—infusing a small home with big mid-century charm and modern practicality.
